Earlier this spring, the Department of Economics held its annual awards ceremony. Woodsworth students and recent alumni took home four of the prizes given. The Undergraduate Awards of Excellence in Economics event celebrated the achievements of undergraduates during the 2024-2025 academic year.    

What does a second chance at university look like? For Michelle Carranza, it led to an Honours BA, graduate studies in social work, and a meaningful new career helping others.

On May 5, 2026 the Digital Humanities faculty announced the 2026 Woodsworth College Undergraduate Digital Project and Research Award winners at the Annual Digital Humanities Undergraduate Conference. The award celebrates digital projects completed in a DHU course in the 2025-2026 academic year. 

After immigrating to Canada, Camila Calderon-Cruz found her path forward through Woodsworth's Academic Bridging Program. Now studying public policy and economics, she reflects on how the program built her confidence, shaped her academic journey and opened doors she once thought were out of reach.

Students in the SEE U of T program recently celebrated their graduation after two years of hands-on learning, mentorship and campus experience at U of T. Developed by Woodsworth College in partnership with the TDSB, the program helps high school students from historically underrepresented communities see themselves in university – and beyond.

As one of Woodsworth’s featured funds for UofT Giving Day, gifts made to the Swan Francis Award will be tripled, amplifying the impact of every contribution. When you make a gift to any featured Woodsworth fund, it will be matched dollar-for-dollar by both U of T and Woodsworth, up to $1,000, while matching funds last. Nicole’s story reflects just how far that support can go: nurturing academic curiosity, fostering leadership, and opening doors to experiences that shape both scholarship and community. 

Guided by her lived experience, and an awareness of the systemic challenges faced by Indigenous learners and non‑traditional students, Sandra and her late husband, Steven Dwyer, established the Sandra Laughren & Steven Dwyer Scholarship. Their goal: to ease financial pressures, affirm students’ potential, and help ensure that education remains accessible to all who seek it.

This year, our featured Giving Day funds support Woodsworth students by celebrating access and inclusive excellence.
