New Principal of Woodsworth College Installed
Professor Carol Chin became the 8th Principal of the College.
On Wednesday, October 16th at a music-filled ceremony in Kruger Hall Commons, Prof. Carol Chin was installed as Principal. The occasion was attended by faculty, staff and students of the College as well as former principals Angela Hildyard, Mariel O'Neill-Karch, John Browne and Joe Desloges. Bringing remarks and greetings were Chancellor Rose Patten, Jane Pepino, vice-chair of Governing Council, Jay Pratt, vice-dean, Faculty of Arts & Science, Cheryl Shook, assistant principal & registrar, Woodsworth College, Sean Kiefte, past president, Woodsworth College Alumni Association, and Simran Sawhney, president, Woodsworth College Students' Association. President Meric Gertler administered the oath of office.
Archer Pechawis, a Toronto-based new media and performance artist, led the procession with the Cree Sunrise Song Waniskâ. The U of T Spirit Singers, led by Isabel Bernaus, conductor, and accompanied by Katharine Petkovski on the piano, complemented the ceremony with inspirational music.

Cancer researcher, entrepreneur and Justin Bieber’s DJ: A&S alum Amir Alam is a man of many talents
Amir Alam’s journey to the Faculty of Arts & Science started with a bet.
As a teenager, his love for creating music was ignited one night when he saw a DJ spinning records for a raucous crowd. He struck a deal with his mother: if he got accepted to every major Canadian university he applied to, she would buy him his first set of turntables. He won the wager after fast-tracking his last year of high school and receiving an offer of admission from U of T (along with other top-ranked schools) a few months later.
