Announcing This Year’s Recipients!

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Brookfield Bronfman Gold and Leadership Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to Woodsworth College students in their final year of study who have demonstrated leadership qualities, community involvement, and high academic achievement. The certificates were presented by Lynda Hamilton, widow of Peter F. Bronfman and longtime supporter of the scholarship program, at the Woodsworth College Annual Awards Dinner.

A huge congratulations goes to this year's award recipients! 

Ifrah Farah, Leadership Scholarship

Ifrah is an active member of the U of T and Woodsworth College community, taking on a variety of positions including representing Woodsworth in her first year on the University Students’ Union board of directors and working at U of T’s Centre for Women and Trans People. Currently, she is working as a don at Woodsworth College Residence. Ifrah is a graduate of the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program, and she is completing a major in Political Science with minors in Anthropology and Religion. Ifrah plans to graduate in June 2019 and attend law school.

Faraz Khoshbakhtian, Leadership Scholarship

Throughout his undergraduate degree, Faraz has been a Teaching Assistant in the Socrates Program at the Department of Philosophy, he has assisted with the Himalayan Borderlands initiative, along with volunteering as a Research Assistant and Workshop Facilitator for the U of T InDepth Conference at the Munk School. Faraz is a graduate of the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program, and is completing a Specialist in Philosophy and Computer Science. Faraz will be graduating in November 2019 and has dreams of getting a PhD in Philosophy with a focus on artificial intelligence.

Amy Kirk-Jemmett, Leadership Scholarship

With a love for travel and experience working in the film industry, Amy has been a mentor in the Woodsworth College Peer Mentorship Program, and has acted as the organizer and operator of an independently run performance space and community hub called Double Double Land. She is a graduate of the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program and is completing an Honours BA in Women and Gender Studies. Amy will graduate in June 2019 and plans to build on her honour’s thesis at the graduate level.

Alexa Pandolfi, Leadership Scholarship

Alexa has held numerous positions at Woodsworth College Residence, including Front Desk Porter, President of the Woodsworth College Residence Council, and is currently the residence’s Lead Don and a member of the university wide committee for don training. She has also taken part in the Summer E-Mentorship Program, and is a member of the Varsity Blues Dance Team with experience teaching dance. Alexa is completing a HB Sc in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, and is planning to graduate in June 2019 and go to medical school.

Aaron Sholomenko, Leadership Scholarship

Aaron is a Rotman Commerce student who, in his role as the Vice President of the Toronto Student Investment Council, mentors and coaches students who are pursuing careers in finance. He has been a don at Chestnut Residence for three years and is the founder of their boxing club where he also coaches. He also makes time to volunteer at the Cabbagetown Youth Centre. Aaron is specializing in Finance and Economics and is planning to graduate in June 2019. Following his graduation, Aaron will be working in investment banking.

Chandler Fitzpatrick, Gold Scholarship

Chandler came to Woodsworth through the Diploma-to-Degree Program (having studied at Seneca College) and has been involved at U of T in a variety of roles. They have been the Vice-President, Finance, Equity Studies Student Union, while also being a member of the Student Leadership Conference planning committee. Currently, Chandler is participating in the Feedback Project, an initiative with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion training portfolio for Student Life. Chandler plans to graduate in June 2019 with a Specialist in Gender Studies and a Major in Equity Studies. They plan to continue their studies doing a certificate focusing on non-profit, social service manage, or ASL and deaf studies, with plans to apply to equity oriented graduate work at OISE/UT.
