Isabella Oberto Monasterios

Isabella Oberto Monasterios

Honours Bachelor of Science, 2024
Nutritional Sciences and Fundamental Genetics

Current role: Research Assistant

Employer: University of Toronto - Department of Nutritional Sciences

Industries: Healthcare, Research

Biography: Hi! I’m Isabella, I'm originally from Venezuela, and I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2024 with a double major in Nutritional Sciences and Fundamental Genetics. Since graduating, I’ve been working as a clinical research assistant on projects focused on women’s and children’s health, where I get to combine my love for science and healthcare with teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking.

In my role as a research assistant, I have contributed to large-scale clinical trials in women's and children's health, conducted original research on the genetics of women’s health, and even had the opportunity to explore my creativity while doing meaningful work.

Hobbies: Outside of research, I enjoy baking, Latin dancing (salsa and bachata), learning languages, and travelling to explore new cultures.

Why I mentor: I mentor because having supportive peers has made a big difference in my undergraduate and professional journey so far. I’m still exploring my own path toward a ‘dream career,’ but with the experiences I’ve gained through university and research, I can relate to many of the challenges students face today. I’d love to share what I’ve learned so far and help others navigate these exciting (and sometimes tricky) times.
