Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Scholarships

Meet our 2018 scholarship recipients

The Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Scholarships have been awarded at Woodsworth for the past 19 years. There are two scholarships: the Leadership Scholarship which is valued at $6000 and the Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Gold Scholarship valued at $12 000. The awards are given to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, overcome personal obstacles and have been an active participant at the University and in their community.

Janessa Duran

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Gold Scholarship Recipient

Janessa is graduating this year with a double major in Diaspora and Transnational Studies and Peace, Conflict and Justice Studies. Janessa plans to pursue a Master in Public Policy. She is a graduate of the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program. Janessa has worked in the provincial government and was an intern for the United States Consul General in Toronto. She is co-president of U of T’s Oxfam Canada Chapter, a peer mentor in Woodsworth’s Bridging Program, co-chair of the Peace, Conflict and Justice 11th Annual Conference and intake volunteer at the FCJ Refugee Centre.

Danning Zhang

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Gold Scholarship Recipient

Danning is graduating this year with a double major in Neuroscience and Psychology. Danning plans to attend medical school with hopes of becoming a psychiatrist. While pursuing her studies, she has worked as a research trainee at CAMH. Danning is an active member of her student community. She is the director of external affairs for the Neuroscience Journal and edits bi-weekly meeting presentations.         

Heather Abele

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Leadership Scholarship Recipient

            Heather is graduating this year with a specialist in Sociology and a minor in Sexual Diversity Studies. Heather plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Health. Heather started her studies at George Brown College and came to Woodsworth through our Diploma to Degree Program. Heather is currently interning at the Canadian Foundation for Aids Research. She is also a research assistant at OISE/UT for a project on HIV health literacy among different groups of women.

Eda Martinovic

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Leadership Scholarship Recipient

            Eda is graduating this year with a major in Sociology and minors in Education and Society and History .She plans to pursue a Master in Teaching at OISE/UT. Eda came to Woodsworth through the Millie Rotman Shime Bridging Program. She manages programs in public and high schools that enhance student’s literacy, language and numeracy skills. Eda has also volunteered at several health charities.

Kristi Meta

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Leadership Scholarship Recipient

            Kristi is graduating this year with a Bachelor of Commerce with a specialist in Finance and Economics. Kristi interns at BMO and will be returning there following graduation as an associate in Global Wealth and Asset Management. As a commuter student, Kristi has remained active in the community through her involvement with the Rotman Commerce Law Association, Rotman Commerce Women in Business, Woodsworth College Orientation and as a member of the Albanian Students’ Union. Kristi has worked as a Student Engagement Officer in the Division of University Advancement.

Jean Claude Ting

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Leadership Scholarship Recipient

            Jean Claude will be graduating this year with a double major in Cognitive Science and Linguistics and a minor in Philosophy. Jean Claude hopes to pursue teaching at the post-secondary level. He came to Woodsworth through the Diploma to Degree program. During his time here, Jean Claude has coordinated the U of T Interdisciplinary Symposium of the Mind. He has also served as both the Communications Director and the Co-President of the Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence Student’s Association.

Andy Tran

Brookfield Peter F. Bronfman Leadership Scholarship Recipient       

Andy will be graduating this year with a double major in Cell and Molecular Biology and Immunology. Andy will be doing his graduate studies in the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto. He volunteers with the Da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program, for high school students in the Faculty of Engineering and as a project lead for a high school outreach team with the U of T International Genetically Engineered Machines team. Andy also practices and instructs Tae Kwon Do.
