The program enhances the undergraduate experience of upper-year Woodsworth College students and provides alumni an opportunity to reconnect with the College.
The ASMP is a one to one mentoring program which offers an avenue for professional development for third and fourth year Woodsworth College students, as well as to students in the College affiliated programs: Criminology & Sociolegal Studies and Employment Relations. Alumni mentors can engage with Woodsworth College by sharing knowledge and experiences in the work force with mentees in a structured setting.
Each mentee is paired with a personal mentor. A detailed mentee application form will provide information about previous academic experience, areas of work interest and other personal characteristics that will enable matching with a suitable mentor.
Benefits of being a mentee
- Connect with professionals from various sectors and interact with role models from within the alumni community.
- Professionals are Woodsworth or affiliated program alumni who have established careers in their chosen fields.
- Through structured meetings students will have an opportunity to explore careers, ask questions and gain insight while making important connections and develop professional and personal skills.
- Mentees will have the opportunity to reflect on values and personal characteristics which will inform their career exploration through participation in the career development workshops offered through this program.

Who are ideal mentors?
- Ideal mentors are professionals both young and seasoned who are willing to impart knowledge of their field and experiences they have had in entering their careers
- Mentors should be prepared to make a commitment to nurturing and supporting a student’s development by sharing wisdom, listening and providing supportive guidance and constructive feedback
- Maintaining confidentiality is also another important aspect of being an excellent mentor.

Mentees and mentors are required to attend the following events and be prepared to engage in the program for an approximate time commitment of 12 hours:
- Orientation/training sessions
- Opening and closing receptions
- A minimum of three one on one meetings between October 2015 and March 2016
