Course Code/Description: CRI364H1 Indigenous Peoples & Criminal Justice (Unit 1) - Summer 2017
An introduction to issues affecting Indigenous peoples in the Canadian criminal justice system identified by Indigenous scholars, activists and allies. Topics include: effects of colonization, legal discrimination and disenfranchisement, Treaties and land claims, criminalization, Indigenous activism, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Prerequisite: 1 FCE from CRI205H1, CRI210H1, CRI215H1, CRI225H1
Estimated enrolment: 30-60
Estimated TA support: No TA support if enrolment is 30 or less. One TA position of 70 hours if enrolments reaches 60.
Class Schedule: Monday & Wednesday, 5-8 pm
Sessional dates of appointment: 1 May 2017 - 30 June 2017
Salary: $7385.12 including vacation pay
Qualifications: PhD in progress with ABD (all-but-dissertation) status conferred in Criminology and/or Sociolegal Studies.
Duties: The design, preparation and delivery of course content, including teaching lectures or seminars; creation of courseware; the development and administration of assignments, tests and examinations; invigilation of the final examination; the marking and grading of student work, and the submission of grades to the College in accordance with established policies and procedures; the maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside scheduled classroom hours; and the supervision of the day-to-day work of teaching assistants assigned to the course.

taken into account, both the initial TA appointment (or CI appointment) and the subsequent appointment obligation related to that appointment may be met through position(s) on any one of the three University of Toronto campuses (UTM, UTSC or St. George) in courses in the same discipline as the initial appointment. TAs will only be assigned to courses in fields in which they are or should be qualified to assist.
